DISPERSAL STUDIES

Dispersal Studies explores the relationship between color, dimensional form, sound and perception.

Composed of modular units mounted on birchwood panels, the works function simultaneously as sculptural objects and sound diffusing structures, disrupting and dispersing sound waves through space. Drawing from traditional woven patterns from her Mythical Codes series, the geometric relief disrupts and disperses mid- to high-frequency sound waves, gradually resolving acoustic activity.

The series began as Cubic Waves, a group of six works created for a recording studio in New York. In 2026, the work evolved into Color Kinetics, an expanded exploration of color, gradient and the changing qualities of light, with individual works and groups inspired by places, times of day and sensory experiences.

Light is an essential participant in the work. The dimensional surfaces catch and reflect the surrounding environment, causing color to appear as though it is glowing from within the composition. As natural and ambient light changes, so does the visual experience of the piece. The painting therefore exists not as a fixed image, but as a continually shifting encounter between pigment, light, architecture and perception.

The work belongs to an ongoing body of Dispersal Studies investigating how color can be experienced spatially rather than simply observed. Drawing from principles of visual perception and the behavior of light, the series asks where color actually resides: within the painted surface, within the surrounding space, or within the perception of the viewer.

Conceptually, the series parallels Augius’s visual investigations into internal centering. Where the Circle Series examines psychological and perceptual return within a visual field, Dispersal Studies addresses environmental noise through physical dispersion allowing complexity to dissipate through repetition and structure. The result is an integrated visual and auditory experience in which resolution emerges through sustained interaction.
